Patio Gardening

I decided to try my hand at gardening. My mom always seemed to have a green thumb, but for many years, I felt that the talent was not handed down to me. Anytime I decided to purchase plants, I could almost swear I heard them screaming out to others, "Please save us!!!"

Thankfully, things are coming along fine. I have tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, pepperoncini, squash, various herbs, and cucumbers. I'm so tickled!!! A small garden, nonetheless, but it's a start. The veggies taste delicious in my salads.

I also have a Money tree, Mass Cane plant, a small Rainbow Bush, cute little sticky cactus, and various flowers. I have 2 rose bushes.....one of them I will share in this post. My plants are still alive and thriving! Can you believe it??! *giggles* I'm going to keep it up with hopes that I will get better at it each year.

Here are a couple of books that I purchased to help me along the way.

The Organic Fruit and Vegetable Gardener's Year - A seasonal guide to growing what you eat

Easy Container Combos: Vegetables & Flowers

Do you enjoy gardening? If so, I could use any tips that you provide! If you have a garden, PLEASE post a link to your blog, website, or photo gallery. I would enjoy the inspiration!!! I live in a condominium, and there is not much land for outdoor gardening, so if you could share info about gardening in small areas or even patio gardening I would truly appreciate it!!! Another question....what do you have the most success in planting during the fall?

Happy Gardening!

Ah that is what I am narrowing down to. I had our landscaper pull out a periennel bed last week for me. It will be turned into grass!

My sweet Peggy.....with all that you are going through, I can understand why you made the decision to narrow down. I will be thinking of you and Norm, and pray that he continues to progress.

What you plant for the fall (which means planting in the next couple of weeks for fall crops) depends somewhat on your gardening zone. My friend used to plant spinach and salad green mixes in containers and they grew just fine. Other things you can plant are carrots (there is a round variety that does well in containers), kale and chard. Given your limited room I would stay away from broccoli or cabbage though they do love cooler weather. Maybe you could plant just one or two of each as they tend to get pretty big. Onions and garlic are great for overwintering but do a little research first as to when to plant and harvest.

I don't have anything posted on my blog this year about my garden - shame on me! It's been such an odd summer here in southern OR. While the rest of you are being heat blasted we have had a mild summer. So the usual things I plant aren't as robust as they normally would be by this time. Good luck with your lovely little garden!
